MINUTES OF PROCEEDING

Monday, November 17, 1997

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 10:06 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Jim Jones, Yvan Loubier, Karen Redman, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Valeri.

Acting Members present: Diane Ablonczy for Monte Solberg; Louise Hardy for Nelson Riis; Réjean Lefebvre for Yvan Loubier at 12:02 p.m..

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Richard Domingue and Marion Wrobel,, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the C.D. Howe Institute: David W. Slater, Policy Analyst. From Keith Ambachtsheer & Associates Inc: Keith P. Ambachtsheer, Consultant. From the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan: Robert Bertram, Senior Vice President Investment. From BIMCOR: Don Walcott, Chief Investment Officer. From Koskie Minsky : Mark Zigler. From the Investment Dealers Inc.: Ian Russell; Donald Wright.

The Committee resumed its examination of Bill C-2, An Act to establish the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and to amend the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 28, Meeting No. 30).

The participants in the Round Table made statements and answered questions.

At 12:04 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
