The Standing Committee on Finance met in televised session at 9:04 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Jim Jones, Karen Redman, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Diane Ablonczy for Dick Harris; Maurice Dumas for Yvan Loubier; Lorne Nystrom for Nelson Riis.
Other Member present: André Bachand.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Labour Congress: Nancy Riche, Executive Vice-President; Bob Baldwin, National Director, Social and Economic Policy Department. From the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Monica Townson, Economist and Pension Expert. From the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada: Bernard Dussault, Chief Actuary. From the C.D. Howe Institute: William Robson, Policy Analyst.
The Committee resumed its examination of Bill C-2, An Act to establish the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and to amend the Canada Pension Plan and the Old Age Security and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 28, Meeting No. 30).
Nancy Riche made a statement and, with Bob Baldwin, answered questions.
