MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

(Meeting No. 44)

 

Thursday, June 4, 1998.

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food met in camera at 9:12 a.m., this day, in Room 269, West Block, Murray Calder, Vice-President, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hélène Alarie, Rick Borotsik, Denis Coderre, Odina Desrochers, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor and Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Members present: Roger Gallaway for Paul Bonwick, Rey Pagtakhan for Paul Steckle and Derrek Konrad for Leon E. Benoit.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch: Sonya Dakers, Research Coordinator and Frédéric Forge, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Brian Evans, Director, Animal Health. As Individual: Clare Bauman, Poultry-man and Sheep Breeder and Conrad Bernier, Sheep Breeder.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to hold an Information Session on the Mad Cow Equivalent in Sheep (SCRAPIE), in Quebec.

At 9:12 a.m., Larry McCormick, Acting Chair, took the Chair for the start of the meeting.

At 9:17 a.m., Murray Calder, Vice-President, took the Chair.

On motion of John Harvard, seconded by Denis Coderre, it was agreed, -- That, the Committee authorize the payment for expenses incurred for a reception to be held on Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the Parliamentary Restaurant, for Members, staff and guests, from the Committee's hopitality budget for the fiscal year 1998-1999.

At 10:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
