Introduction of Private Members’ Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Harper (Calgary West), seconded by Mr. Harper (Simcoe Centre), Bill C–341, An Act to establish the terms and conditions that must apply to a referendum relating to the separation of Quebec from Canada before it may be recognized as a proper expression of the will of the people of Quebec, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. White (North Vancouver), seconded by Mr. Johnston (Wetaskiwin), Bill C–342, An Act to establish principles of responsible fiscal management and to require regular publication of information by the Minister of Finance to demonstrate the Government’s adherence to those principles, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. White (North Vancouver), seconded by Mr. Johnston (Wetaskiwin), Bill C–343, An Act to provide for the holding of citizen-initiated referenda on specific questions, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mrs. Chamberlain (Guelph–Wellington), seconded by Mr. Alcock (Winnipeg South), Bill C–344, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (no early parole for those who murder a peace officer), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Bhaduria (Markham–Whitchurch–Stouffville), seconded by Mr. Taylor (The Battlefords–Meadow Lake), Bill C–345, An Act to provide for the limitation of interest rates on credit cards, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Government Orders

The Order was read for the third reading of Bill C–35, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (minimum wage).
