Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Collenette (Minister of National Defence), for Mr. Axworthy (Minister of Human Resources Development), seconded by Mr. Anderson (Minister of National Revenue), Bill C-30, An Act to amend the Department of Labour Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation
(Pursuant to Standing Order 79(2))

    His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled ``An Act to amend the Department of Labour Act''.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. de Savoye (Portneuf), seconded by Mr. Bernier (Gaspé), Bill C-248, An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canada Labour Code and the Public Service Employment Act (whistleblowing), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mrs. Hayes (Port Moody -- Coquitlam), seconded by Mr. Stinson (Okanagan -- Shuswap), Bill C-249, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (right to citizenship), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans of Bill C-29, An Act to amend the Coastal Fisheries Protection Act.

Mr. Tobin (Minister of Fisheries and Oceans), seconded by Mr. Robichaud (Secretary of State (Parliamentary Affairs)), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.

Debate arose thereon.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was read the second time and, by unanimous consent, referred to a Committee of the Whole.

The Committee considered the Bill and reported it without amendment.

Pursuant to Standing Order 76.1(12), Mr. Tobin (Minister of Fisheries and Oceans), seconded by Mr. Robichaud (Secretary of State (Parliamentary Affairs)), moved, -- That the Bill be concurred in at report stage.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was concurred in at report stage.

By unanimous consent, the Order was read for the third reading of Bill C-29, An Act to amend the Coastal Fisheries Protection Act.

The House resumed debate on the motion of Mr. Young (Minister of Transport), seconded by Mr. Irwin (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), -- That Bill C-22, An Act respecting certain agreements concerning the redevelopment and operation of Terminals 1 and 2 of Lester B.
