The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Finance of Bill C–2, An Act to amend the Department of National Revenue Act and to amend certain other Acts in consequence thereof.

Mr. Anderson (Minister of National Revenue), seconded by Mr. Eggleton (President of the Treasury Board), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Rock (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), Bill C–8, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Coastal Fisheries Protection Act (force), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Martin (Minister of Finance), seconded by Mr. Anderson (Minister of National Revenue), Bill C–9, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled “An Act to amend the Income Tax Act”.

Presenting Petitions

Debate resumed on the motion of Mr. Anderson (Minister of National Revenue), seconded by Mr. Eggleton (President of the Treasury Board), — That Bill C–2, An Act to amend the Department of National Revenue Act and to amend certain other Acts in consequence thereof, be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was read the second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.


The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs of Bill C–4, An Act to amend the Crown Liability and Proceedings Act.

Mr. Massé (President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada), for Mr. Rock (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Marchi (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
