Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. MacLaren (Minister for International Trade), seconded by Mrs. Finestone (Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women)), Bill C-57, An Act to implement the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Recommendation

His Excellency the Governor General recommends to the House of Commons the appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled ``An Act to implement the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization''.

Mr. Williams (St. Albert), seconded by Mr. Penson (Peace River), moved, -- That this House requests the government to table a clear detailed plan to show how and when it intends to balance the Budget including a clear statement of its vision of the role of the government in the economy in order for the people of Canada to debate the plan and vision.
