The Rehabilitation of West Block

The result of a rehabilitation project spanning the last decade, West Block will reopen to accommodate, for an interim period, the legislative functions that are currently housed in Centre Block.

The West Block rehabilitation project is a major undertaking that speaks to the collaboration of the House of Commons and its partners, notably Public Services and Procurement Canada, in restoring this heritage building to its original magnificence, as well as in incorporating the modern functionality required to support our parliamentary democracy.

The story of West Block intertwines Canada’s past and future, and its rehabilitation is a chapter in which architectural vision, painstaking restoration work and technological innovation have come together to create an interim home for the House of Commons for the years to come.
