Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, the committee commenced its study of the review of the employment insurance program.

Benoît Long made a statement and, with Andrew Brown, answered questions.

Committee Business
The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the draft news release, in the context of the review of the employment insurance program, be adopted and published on the committee’s website.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $2,500, for the study of the rapid housing initiative, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $3,750, for the study of the review of the employment insurance program, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That, in the context of Bill C-220, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (compassionate care leave), the deadline for the submission of amendments to the clerk of the committee be no later than Monday, February 22, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. (ET); that the committee consider the bill on Thursday, February 25, 2021; that, during the first hour of its meeting of Thursday, February 25, 2021, the committee invite the sponsor of the bill and any witnesses the sponsor choses to accompany him; and that during the second hour of its meeting of Thursday, February 25, 2021, the committee commence clause-be-clause consideration of the bill.

Motion

Leah Gazan moved, — That, pursuant to the order of reference of Tuesday, February 16, 2021, the committee consider the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2020-21; and that the ministers be invited to appear.

After debate, by unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

It was agreed, — That the committee consider the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2020-21; and that the subcommittee meet to consider the future business of the committee.

At 5:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
