The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a) and Standing Order 108(2), the Committee invite officials from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Public Safety Canada, Health Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Immigration and Refugee Board, the Department of National Defence, and other departments as appropriate, as well as the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, to brief the Committee on the issue of asylum seekers irregularly entering Canada from the United States and the Government’s response; and that the briefing, consisting of not less than two meetings, be held as soon as possible, and that one meeting be held jointly with the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.

At 9:32 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That during the week of October 16, 2017, the Committee hold two additional meetings outside of the regularly scheduled two meetings in order to complete the study in relation to the Order of Reference received on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, regarding immigration to Atlantic Canada (M-39).

It was agreed, — That the Committee host an informal breakfast meeting on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, and that the Committee cover the costs of the hospitality incurred.

At 9:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
