The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D. Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Tyrone Benskin, Corneliu Chisu, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Pierre Dionne Labelle, Royal Galipeau, Yvon Godin, Jacques Gourde, Élaine Michaud, Erin O'Toole and Bernard Trottier.

 

Acting Members present: Russ Hiebert for Joyce Bateman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lucie Lecomte, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Hubert T. Lacroix, President and Chief Executive Officer. Parks Canada: Larry Ostola, Vice-President , Heritage Conservation and Commemoration Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee resumed consideration of the study of Linguistic duality during the 150th anniversary celebrations of Canadian Confederation in 2017.
 

Yvon Godin gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee invite each of the ministers responsible for the institutions covered by the Roadmap for Canada’s Linguistic Duality 2008–2013: Acting for the Future, and each of the ministers responsible for National Defence and the Canadian Forces, Veterans Affairs Canada, Environment Canada, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, to attend a two-hour televised public hearing, respectively, to discuss their official languages obligations by April 30, 2013.

 

Hubert T. Lacroix made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Larry Ostola made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
