The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don Davies, Rick Dykstra, Sadia Groguhé, Kevin Lamoureux, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, David Tilson and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Ed Komarnicki for Ted Opitz, Jinny Jogindera Sims for Rathika Sitsabaiesan, Brad Trost for Roxanne James and Nycole Turmel for Matthew Kellway.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Jason Kenney, P.C., M.P., Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Claudette Deschênes, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; Les Linklater, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy; Amipal Manchanda, Assistant Deputy Minister, Chief Financial Officer; Neil Yeates, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-13: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 

The Chair called Vote 1 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Claudette Deschênes and Les Linklater, answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, December 8, 2011, the Committee resumed its study "Standing on Guard for Thee: Ensuring that Canada's Immigration System is Secure".
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Claudette Deschênes, answered questions.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
