The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 11:26 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Ray Boughen, Dona Cadman, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Michelle Simson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Holke David, Procedural Clerk.

 

Appearing: Hon. Rona Ambrose, Minister for Status of Women; Hon. Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice.

 

Witnesses: Status of Women Canada: Suzanne Clément, Coordinator, Head of Agency, Office of the Coordinator; Linda Savoie, Director General, Women's Program and Regional Operations. Department of Justice: Lisa Hitch, Senior Counsel, Office of the Senior General Counsel, Family, Children and Youth Section; Marc Rozon, Director, Innovations, Analysis and Integration Directorate. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Kevin Jones, Acting Director General, National Aboriginal Policing Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of violence against Aboriginal women;
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 7, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of the manner and criteria for funding of Women's Community Fund and Women's Partnership Fund by Status of Women Canada;
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2010-11: Vote 95c under CANADIAN HERITAGE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.
 

The Chair called Vote 95c under CANADIAN HERITAGE.

 

The Ministers made statements and, with Kevin Jones, answered questions.

 

At 12:24 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:29 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Suzanne Clément, Linda Savoie, Lisa Hitch and Marc Rozon answered questions.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

Vote 95c under CANADIAN HERITAGE carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Vote number 95c, under CANADIAN HERITAGE to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the officials from Status of Women Canada and the Department of Justice to appear again before the Committee, in order to discuss violence against Aboriginal women and the manner and criteria for funding of the Women's Community Fund and the Women's Partnership Fund by Status of Women Canada.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
