Meeting No. 34

Thursday, June 5, 2008

The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Steven John Fletcher, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Joy Smith, Lui Temelkovski, Hon. Robert Thibault and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: Ron Cannan for Patricia Davidson, Carole Freeman for Christiane Gagnon, Richard Harris for David Tilson, Jean-Yves Roy for Luc Malo, Mario Silva for Hon. Robert Thibault and Roger Valley for Lui Temelkovski.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst ; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst ; Sonya Norris, Analyst . House of Commons: Isabelle Dumas, Procedural Clerk.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and section 25.9 of the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the progress in implementing the “10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care”.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

It was agreed, — That the Ministry of Health, together with the Public Health Agency of Canada, table by Tuesday, June 10, 2008, their analysis of the progress to date in each of the sections of the 2004 First Ministers’ Accord on Health, as previously requested by the Committee on April 17, 2008; and that the provinces not be bound by the current motion.

It was agreed, — That the analysts provide, on or before the Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, 2008, an additional section to the existing draft report on the statutory review of the “10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care” that summarizes the evidence on each component of the 10-Year Plan as provided by witnesses; and that they also provide draft recommendations where appropriate and relevant.

At 12:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
