The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Joe Comartin, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard, Maria Mourani and Rick Norlock.

 

Acting Members present: Omar Alghabra for Hon. Irwin Cotler, Hon. Carolyn Bennett for Hon. Raymond Chan, Blaine Calkins for Laurie Hawn and Mark Holland for Hon. Roy Cullen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philip Rosen, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Privy Council Office: Margaret Bloodworth, National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister & Associate Secretary to the Cabinet. Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness: William J.S. Elliott, Associate Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the report of the Commission of Inquiry on the events relating to Maher Arar.
 

The witnesses answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Mayor of Point Edward be invited to appear on Thursday, February 8, 2007 in relation to the study on the Arming of the Canada Border Service Agency Officers.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee discuss future business on Thursday, February 1, 2007.

 

At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
