The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Rahim Jaffer, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

Acting Members present: Nicole Demers for Johanne Deschamps, Hon. Gurbax Malhi for Raymonde Folco and Joe Preston for Nina Grewal.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

Witnesses: The United Church of Canada: Heather Macdonald, Program Coordinator, Refugee and Migration, Justice and Global Ecumenical Relations. Romero House: Mary Jo Leddy, Director, Professor, Ontario Sanctuary Coalition. First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa: Phil Nagy, Chair, Hitschmanova Committee, Unitarian-Universalist Congregation. St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church: Pierre Gauthier, Refugee Outreach Committee. All Saints Lutheran Church: Gordon Walt, Vice-Chair, Congregational Council. The Presbyterian Church in Canada: Stephen Allen, Associate Secretary, Justice Ministries.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Refugee Issues (persons in sanctuary).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
