The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Preston for Rahim Jaffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Daniel Therrien, Senior General Counsel, Office of the Assistant Deputy Attorney General. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Anna-Mae Grigg, Director, Litigation Management. Canada Border Services Agency: Susan Kramer, Director, Inland Enforcement; Kimber Johnston, Director General, Policy and Program Development Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, the Committee commenced its study on Detention Centers - Security Certificates.
 

Daniel Therrien made a statement and, with Anna-Mae Grigg, Susan Kramer and Kimber Johnston, answered questions.

 

At 10:41 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:42 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Chair presented the 3rd Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

After debate, the question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
