The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Tina Keeper, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Peggy Nash for Charlie Angus.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Danielle Bouvet, Director, Legislative and International Projects, Copyright Policy Branch. Department of Industry: Albert Cloutier, Director, Intellectual Property Policy Directorate.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on Copyright.
 

Danielle Bouvet and Albert Cloutier made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, Francis Scarpaleggia moved, — That the Committee invite representatives of Canada’s premiere rail museum, the internationally-renowned Exporail museum, in St-Constant, Quebec, to discuss significant challenges facing the museum’s future as the foremost guardian of Canada’s rail heritage and history.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

By unanimous consent, Jim Abbott moved, — That the Committe invite the Canadian Railroad Historical Association and the Canadian Council on Railway Heritage to appear before the Committee on October 25, 2006.

On motion of Francis Scarpaleggia, it was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $12,500.00 for inviting witnesses to appear in Ottawa on its study on Canadian Museums and on other matters be adopted.

 

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
