The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:48 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Pat Martin for Charlie Angus.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Matthew Carnaghan, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

The Chair presided over the election of the Vice-Chair.

 

On motion of Scott Simms, it was agreed, — That Mauril Bélanger be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee instructed the Clerk and the Analysts to prepare a working plan for the fall on the following topics :

- Copyright (Two briefings sessions by officials)

- CBC/Radio-Canada : Briefing on the actual mandate of the Corporation

- Minister of Canadian Heritage : (A) CBC Terms of Reference for the mandate review (B) Francophone secretariat (Northern Ontario) (C) Media concentration

- Museums : New Museums policy

- Railway Museums (East and West)

- Estimates and Performance Report

 

Maka Kotto moved, — That, in the Committee’s opinion, the government implement as soon as possible the new museum policy discussed in 2005 and respect the work and consultations undertaken by the Department; that this new policy, once developed, be studied by the present Committee before its introduction in the House; and that the Chair report to the House.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Mauril Bélanger, Maka Kotto, Luc Malo, Pat Martin, Francis Scarpaleggia, Scott Simms — 6; NAYS: Jim Abbott, Sylvie Boucher, Ed Fast, Chris Warkentin — 4.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
