The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David A. Anderson, Colleen Beaumier, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Nina Grewal for Rahim Jaffer.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Conference Board of Canada: Michael Bloom, Executive Director, Strategic Projects and Initiatives and Director, Education and Learning. Canadian Nurses Association: Lisa Little, Health Human Resources Consultant. Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks: Pauline McNaughton, Executive Director. Canadian Pharmacists Association: Jeff W. Poston, Executive Director.

 

The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

That Gurmant Grewal, M.P., Officials from the Department of Cititizenship and Immigration and representatives from the Canadian Bar Association be invited to appear on Thursday, March 24, 2005 to speak on Bill C-283.

That the names of Members travelling in April 2005 be submitted to the clerk no later than March 21, 2005.

That the Committee discuss the motions of Meili Faille and Diane Ablonczy from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.

That the Clerk be authorized to schedule Ottawa-based witnesses during the month of May 2005.

That the Analyst prepare a summary of evidence on Recognition of the International Experience and Credentials of Immigrants and Family Reunification before the summer adjournment.

 

On motion of Bill Siksay, it was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Recognition of the International Experience and Credentials of Immigrants.
 

Lisa Little, Jeff W. Poston, Pauline McNaughton and Michael Bloom made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
