The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 12:03 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Colleen Beaumier, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Hedy Fry, Helena Guergis, Rahim Jaffer, Inky Mark, Bill Siksay, Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Borys Wrzesnewskyj for David A. Anderson.

 

Associate Members present: Nina Grewal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Joseph Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janice Charette, Deputy Minister; Wayne Ganim, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Centralized Service Delivery and Corporate Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2005: Vote 1b, 2b and 5b under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada referred to the Committee on Friday, February 25, 2005.
 

Minister Joseph Volpe made a statement, and with Janice Charette and Wayne Ganim, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 1b carry.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 2b carry.

 

It was agreed, — That Vote 5b carry.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1b, 2b and 5b, under the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada to the House.

 

On motion of Bill Siksay, it was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee be authorized to make necessary arrangements to organize a reception in Toronto for the visiting Norwegian delegation.

 

On motion of Bill Siksay, it was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee at its second meeting on October 20, 2004, that the reduced quorum to receive and publish evidence during the Committee’s travel be two members, when quorum is not present.

 

At 1:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
