The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in a televised session at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Gerry Ritz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Réal Lapierre, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, David Smith, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Judy Wasylycia-Leis for Charlie Angus.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Marc LeBlanc, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Andy Mitchell, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

 

Witnesses: Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Christiane Ouimet, Associate Deputy Minister; Susie Miller, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Farm Financial Programs Branch; Danny Foster, Acting Director General, Business Risk Management Program Development.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) Program and other farm income issues.
 

At 3:39 p.m., Paul Steckle took the Chair.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination of John Core to the position of Chairman of the Canadian Dairy Commission which was referred to the Committee on Monday, October 3, 2005.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee waive further consideration of the nomination of John Core, Chairman of the Canadian Dairy Commission..

 

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
