Meeting No. 20

Thursday, March 20, 2003

The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, The Hon. Charles L. Caccia, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:  Bernard Bigras, The Hon. Charles L. Caccia, Joe Comartin, John Herron, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Hélène Scherrer, Alan Tonks.

Acting Member present:  Paul Szabo for Rick Laliberté.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Tim Williams, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Department of the Environment: Karen Lloyd, Acting Director General, Knowledge Integration Directorate; Risa Smith, Manager, National Indicators and Reporting Office. From Statistics Canada: Philip Smith, Assistant Chief Statistician, National Accounts and Analytical Studies; Robert Smith, Assistant Director, Environment Accounts and Statistics Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Report on the State of Canada's Environment.

Karen Lloyd and Philip Smith made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
