Meeting No. 25

Thursday, September 27, 2001

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Yvon Charbonneau, Stan Dromisky, James Lunney, Real Menard, Rob Merrifield, Helene Scherrer, Judy Sgro and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: François Côté, Nancy Miller Chenier and  Sonya Norris, research officers.

Witnesses: From the Parkinson Society Canada: Mary Jardine, National Executive Director; David Simmonds, Chair. From the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada: Yves Savoie, National Executive Director; Claredon Robicheau, President, Southwest Nova Scotia Chapter, Member - National Board of Directors. From the Ottawa Health Research Institute: Ronald Worton, Chief Executive Officer; Michael Rudnicki, Canada Research Chair in Molecular Genetics, Senior Scientist & Director, Molecular Medicine Program. From the Canadian Institutes of Health Research: Dr. Thérèse Leroux, Director of Ethics.

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft legislation on Assisted Human Reproduction. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Thursday, May 3, 2001, Meeting No. 13).

The witnesses each made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
