Meeting No. 15

Wednesday, November 3, 1999

The Standing Committee on Transport met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Stan Keyes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Roy Bailey, Murray Calder, Bill Casey, Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, Stan Dromisky, Claude Drouin, Michel Guimond, Charles Hubbard, Ovid Jackson, Dale Johnston, Stan Keyes, Val Meredith.

Other Member present: Aileen Carroll.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From Canada 3000: Angus Kinnear, President. From the Royal Airlines: Al Graham, President; Des Ryan, Vice-President, Customer Service. From the Ontario Regional: James G. Massie, Chairman. From the Canadian Regional Airlines Ltd.: Robert W. Reding, President and CEO. From the "InterCanadien": Robert Myhill, President & CEO; Derek Nice, First Vice President, Planning & Operations. From the Canadian North: Carmen R. Loberg. From the Air Transat: Philippe Sureau, President and CEO; Denis Jacob, Executive Vice-President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the future of the airline industry in Canada.

The document related to section 47 of the Canada Transportation Act requested by the Committee during its meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 1999 was provided by the Department of Transport and distributed in both official languages to all members of the Committee.

Both Angus Kinnear and Al Graham made opening statements and, with Des Ryan, answered questions.

At 5:53 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 6:01 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Robert W. Reding, Robert Myhill, Carmen R. Loberg made opening statements and, with James G. Massie and Derek Nice, answered questions.

At 7:35 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was suspended.

At 7:42 p.m., by unanimous consent, the sitting was resumed.

Philippe Sureau made an opening statement and, with Denis Jacob, answered questions. 

  At 8:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
