Meeting No. 28

Tuesday, May 2, 2000

The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Bonnie Brown, Paul Crête, Libby Davies, Raymonde Folco, Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Dale Johnston, Larry McCormick, Judy Sgro, Maurice Vellacott and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: Lynn Myers for Rey Pagtakhan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Julie Mackenzie and Bill Young, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the CCAF: Jean-Pierre Boisclair, President. From the Deloitte Touche: Colin Potts, Partner; Susan Mingie, Partner.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the future business of the Committee.

It was agreed, -- That the following witnesses appear before the Committee in relation to its study of HRDC Grants and Contributions:

May 4th: Alan Broadbent, Maytree Foundation
Julie White, Private Foundations Canada
Thomas Bzustowski, Natural Sciences & Engineering
Research Council of Canada

May 9th: Arthur Kroeger
Gilles Paquette, Ottawa University
Sean Moore, Gowling, Strathy & Henderson

The Chair presented a draft Committee budget for the period of April 1, 2000 to June 30, 2000.

It was agreed, -- That the Committee adopt the Budget of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities in the amount of $64,490.00."

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study of HRDC Grants and Contributions.

Colin Potts and Jean-Pierre Boisclair made opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
