Meeting No. 13

Wednesday, December 8, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:00 p.m., this day, in the Regency Ballroom at the Travelodge Prince Albert Hotel, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch - Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: As Individual: Dave Bailey; Barbara Willick; Bob Willick; Mark Cousin; Leonard Blocka; Bruce Wagner; Michelle Luciuk; Adam Luciuk (son); Garfield Lutz; Ted Cawkwell. From the National Farmers Union: Morris Prescesky; Morris Prescesky, Member. From the United Grain Growers: Terry Youzwa, Director; Brett Halstead, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the effectiveness of long-term safety nets and other national initiatives to provide the stability and environment necessary for stable growth in the agricultural industry.

Dave Bailey, Leonard Blocka, Mark Cousin, Barbara Willick and Bob Willick made opening statements and answered questions.

Ted Cawkwell, Michelle Luciuk, Adam Luciuk, Garfield Lutz, and Bruce Wagner made opening statements and answered questions.

Morris Prescesky, Terry Youzwa and Brett Halstead made opening statements and answered questions.

Open Microphone Session:

Donald Blocka, Bill Cooper, Wayne Mastrachuk, Armand Roy, Wayne Bacon and Bud Healey each made a statement.

At 6:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
