Meeting No. 12

Wednesday, December 8, 1999

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 8:30 a.m., this day, in the Regency Ballroom at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Regina, Saskatchewan, the Chair, John Harvard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, John Harvard, Larry McCormick, Joe McGuire, Dick Proctor.

Other Member present: Allan Kerpan.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch - Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Researcher; Jean-Denis Fréchette, Economist.

Witnesses: As Individual: Gayle Knutson. From the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture & Food: The Hon. Dwain Lingenfelter, Minister; The Hon. Len Gustafson, Senator. As Individual: Greg Lamb; Stewart Wells; Avery Sahl; Denis Martine; Lorne Sheppard; Richard Donnelly; Dennis Thompson. From the Saskatchewan Official Opposition Agriculture Critic: Bill Boyd, M.L.A. From the Canadian Farm Women's Network: Raquel Moleski, Board Member.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the effectiveness of long-term safety nets and other national initiatives to provide the stability and environment necessary for stable growth in the agricultural industry.

The Hon. Dwain Lingenfelter, The Hon. Len Gustafson, Gayle Knutson, Greg Lamb and Stewart Wells made opening statements and answered questions.

From 9:30 to 9:40 a.m., Murray Calder took the Chair of the Committee.

Denis Martine, Avery Sahl, Lorne Sheppard and Dennis Thompson each made opening statement and answered questions.

Open Microphone Session:

Roy Atkinson, Ray Bashutsky, Ron Bishoff, Ron Gleim and Richard Wright each made a statement.

Barry Farr, William Giblett and Sinclair Harrison each made a statement.

At 12:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
