The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met jointly with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade at 3:15 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, David Pratt and Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, René Laurin, David Pratt, David Price and John Richardson.
Acting Members present: John McKay for George Proud and Paul Mercier for Ghislain Lebel.
Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bill Graham and Daniel Turp.
Acting Member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Paul Crête for Maud Debien.
Senator present: Hon. Douglas Roche.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, OP ABACUS. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Guy Archambault, Deputy Director (Balkans), Southern Europe Division. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Hélène Corneau, Program Manager, Central and Eastern Europe Programme. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See the Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 99.)
Guy Archambault, Lt-Gen Raymond Henault and Jeff LeBane each made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 4:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
