The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rey Pagtakhan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Leon Benoit, Sophia Leung, John McKay, Grant McNally, Réal Ménard, Rey Pagtakhan and Andrew Telegdi.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Researcher.
Appearing:: The Hon. Lucienne Robillard, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
Witnesses:From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janice Cochrane, Deputy Minister; Jeff LeBane, Director General, International Region; Greg Fyffe, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Martha Nixon, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; Georges Tsaï, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to consider the Performance Report of the Department for the period ending March 31, 1998 and Immigration Targets for Economic Immigrants.
The Minister made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
