The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised joint session with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade at 10:04 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, Rick Casson, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, and Bernard Patry presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Bill Blaikie, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Crête for Claude Bachand and Roger Valley for Hon. Larry Bagnell.

 

Members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade present: Stockwell Day, Francine Lalonde, Alexa McDonough, Ted Menzies, Pierre A. Paquette, Bernard Patry, Beth Phinney and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Belinda Stronach and Derek Lee for Hon. Lawrence MacAulay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst; Wolf Koerner, Analyst. As an Individual: Joseph P. Culligan, Consultant. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee commenced its study of the International and Defence Policy Statements.
 

The Ministers made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
