Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the committee commenced consideration of Report 3, Rehabilitation of Parliament’s Centre Block—Public Services and Procurement Canada, of the 2023 Reports 1 to 4 of the Auditor General of Canada, referred to the committee on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Andrew Hayes and Arianne Reza made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Motion

Jake Stewart moved, — That, given recent reports that the National Capital Commission (NCC) paid over $8 million to replace a barn at Rideau Hall, the committee:

(a) undertake a study of one meeting on this imprudent spending and invite the NCC and Treasury Board officials to testify on the matter; and

(b) report to the house that the committee recognize that this is an egregious waste of taxpayer money especially considering the cost of living crisis Canadians are facing.

Debate arose thereon.

Amendment

Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné moved, — That the motion be amended by adding the word “seemingly” before the word “imprudent” and adding the words “especially considering the cost of living crisis Canadians are facing and” before the word “invite”, and deleting the words “that the committee recognize that this is an egregious waste of taxpayer money especially considering the cost of living crisis Canadians are facing.”.

At 12:22 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

Motion

Iqra Khalid moved, — That, given recent reports that the National Capital Commission (NCC) paid over $8 million to replace a barn at Rideau Hall, the committee:

(a) undertake a study of one meeting on this seemingly imprudent spending and especially considering the cost of living crisis Canadians are facing and invite the NCC, including CEO Tobi Nussbaum and Treasury Board and Procurement Services and Procurement Canada officials to testify on the matter; and

(b) report to the house and that pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:
