Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Thursday, October 29, 2020, the committee resumed its study of the aircraft certification process.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Taylor Bachrach moved, — That the committee call on the federal government to launch, as early as possible, a public inquiry into Canada’s aircraft certification process and its role in certifying the Boeing 737 Max 8 as well as Transports Canada’s actions following the Lion Air crash in 2018; and that the Chair of the committee writes to the minister to inform him thereof.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Taylor Bachrach, Xavier Barsalou-Duval — 2;

NAYS: Chris Bittle, Fayçal El-Khoury, Helena Jaczek, Michael Kram, Stephanie Kusie, Churence Rogers, Doug Shipley, Maninder Sidhu, Gerald Soroka — 9.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

At 5:49 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
