Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of Sven Spengemann, it was agreed, — That the Hon. John McKay be elected Chair of the Committee.

At 8:52 a.m., the Hon. John McKay took the Chair.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.

On motion of Dave MacKenzie, it was agreed, — That Pierre Paul-Hus be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee invite relevant officials from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Public Safety Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency and other departments as appropriate, to brief the Committee in a joint meeting with the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration on the issue of asylum seekers irregularly entering Canada from the United States and the Government’s response.

It was agreed, — That the Committee receive a briefing from the Canadian Mental Health Commission on its Road to Mental Readiness training program.

At 9:09 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
