The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.

It was agreed, — That in relation to a study on Canada’s Global Engagement on Human Rights Issues, particularly through the United Nations (UN) and its Agencies, the proposed budget in the amount of $34,486.77, for the Committee’s travel to New York City in the fall of 2016, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That in relation to a study on Canada’s Global Engagement on Human Rights Issues, particularly by exchanging with the human rights committees in the U.S. Congress, the proposed budget in the amount of $31,707.91, for the Committee’s travel to Washington, D.C., be adopted.

It was agreed, — That in relation to a study of the role of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights as a center of expertise in past achievements in Canada’s contribution to international human rights, and in highlighting existing Canadian initiatives to enhance our effectiveness in that field, the proposed budget in the amount of $22,454.00, for the Committee’s travel to Winnipeg, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That Global Affairs Canada provide a briefing on the Government’s focus on human rights and that witnesses from the new Office of Human Rights, Freedoms and Inclusion be invited to give a briefing as well.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study of the human rights situation in Burundi.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study of the human rights situation of the Yezidis, Christians and other religious and ethnic minorities in Syria and Iraq.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee undertake a study on human trafficking in India.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee hold a meeting to discuss the allegations of organ harvesting in China and invite David Matas and David Kilgour to appear before it.

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee hold a meeting to receive an update on the situation of people living in Camp Liberty in Iraq.

It was agreed, — That members submit their lists of suggested witnesses to be invited, in relation to the study of the human rights situation in Burundi, to the Clerk’s office during the summer adjournment.

At 1:45 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
