Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 25, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of Canada and the Defence of North America.

Stephen Burt made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

James Bezan moved, — That unanimous consent be required for any Member of Parliament who is not a member of the Committee to be present during in camera proceedings of the Committee.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: James Bezan, Cheryl Gallant, Alistair MacGregor, Pierre Paul-Hus — 4;

NAYS: Darren Fisher, Mark Gerretsen, Jean R. Rioux, Sherry Romanado, Sven Spengemann — 5.

Motion

James Bezan moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 119, unanimous consent be required to allow Parliamentary Secretaries to participate in the proceedings of the Committee, either during debate or during the questioning of witnesses.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

NAYS: Darren Fisher, Mark Gerretsen, Jean R. Rioux, Sherry Romanado, Sven Spengemann — 5.

Motion

Alistair MacGregor moved, — That the Committee invite the Minister of National Defence to appear at the earliest opportunity before the Committee for two (2) hours, to discuss the recently tabled Supplementary Estimates; and that the meeting be televised.

Mark Gerretsen moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

On motion of Sherry Romanado, it was agreed, — That the Committee do now adjourn.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
