At 4:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 4:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.
Earl Dreeshen moved, — That the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology invite the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development to appear on Tuesday, February 22, 2016 to present his mandate, and that the meeting be televised .
On motion of Brian Masse, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by adding the words: "at his earliest convenience", after the words: "Tuesday, February 22, 2016".
The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 5.
Frank Baylis moved, — That a representative from each of the agencies in our portfolio be asked to appear before the committee and provide a briefing on their state of the union for their departments and to include what are their biggest challenges, their biggest opportunities, and what are their overall goals, and to do this with a focus on innovation.
On motion of Brian Masse, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words: "and to do this with a focus on innovation".
Alexander Nuttall moved, — That the motion be further amended by adding the words: "and that the ministers be invited to appear at their earliest convenience".
Frank Baylis moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.
The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.
At 5:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 5:28 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.
At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
