Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 13, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of poverty reduction strategies.

Khadeeja Ahsan by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, Stella Lord by videoconference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Georgia Barnwell by teleconference from Bedford, Nova Scotia, James Hughes and Jennefer Laidley made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Pierre Poilievre moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development, and the Status of Persons with Disabilities study the effects of a federally-mandated carbon tax on low-income families, and that Employment and Social Development Canada and Statistics Canada fully report to the Committee on the number of people the carbon tax will cause to fall below the low-income cut-off line.

Debate arose thereon.

Motion

Dan Ruimy moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Wayne Long, Yves Robillard, Dan Ruimy, Ramesh Sangha, Brigitte Sansoucy, Filomena Tassi — 6;

NAYS: Pierre Poilievre, Mark Warawa, Bob Zimmer — 3.

The Committee resumed its study of poverty reduction strategies. Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
