The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

The Chair presented the sixth report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure. On motion of Karen Ludwig, the report was concurred in and read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, November 28, 2016, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That any witnesses named in the motion of Monday, November 21, 2016, who declined to appear before the Committee on the subject of algorithms not be substituted with other witnesses.

2. That the meeting of Wednesday, December 7, 2016, be scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; that the first 45 minutes of the meeting be scheduled to hear from Google; and that the rest of the meeting be dedicated to reviewing the Summary of Evidence and providing drafting instructions to the analyst.

3. That the witnesses for the meeting of Monday, December 12, 2016 include representatives from Status of Women Canada as well as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Western Economic Diversification Canada, Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, FedNor, and Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

4. That the analyst prepare a draft work plan on the Economic Security of Women, and that the proposed witnesses be associated thematically to the terms of reference for the study.

5. That the draft work plan be distributed to all Members of the Committee prior to the meeting on Monday, December 12, 2016.

6. That the clerk be authorized to use the hospitality budget of the Committee in order to provide for a small working lunch during the informal meeting of Monday, December 5, 2016, with the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Motion

Sheila Malcolmson moved, — That the Committee draft a letter to the Minister of Status of Women to request an extension to the December 8, 2016, application for funding deadline.

Debate arose thereon.

Anita Vandenbeld moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of violence against young women and girls in Canada.

Maureen Adamson, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, and Jocelyne Mills, by videoconference from Frederiction, New Brunswick, made statements and, with Martine Stewart by videoconference from Frederiction, New Brunswick, Lisa Priest and Tessa Hill, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, answered questions.

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
