Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the Committee resumed its study on the federal government’s initiative to resettle Syrian refugees to Canada.

Brian Dyck, Majed El Shafie and Leslie Emory made statements and answered questions.

The Chair ruled that the line of questioning directed towards Majed El Shafie was outside the scope of the study.

Whereupon, Michelle Rempel appealed the decision of the Chair.

The question: "Shall the decision of the Chair be sustained?" was put and the decision was sustained on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Shaun Chen, Ali Ehsassi, Randeep Sarai, Marwan Tabbara, Salma Zahid — 5;

NAYS: Sylvie Boucher, Jenny Kwan, Michelle Rempel, Bob Saroya — 4.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:09 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Khim Tan, by videoconference from Vancouver, Bristish Columbia, Aslam Daud and Jessica Ferne made statements and answered questions.

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
