Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of migration challenges and opportunities for Canada in the 21st century.

Michele Klein Solomon, by videoconference from Geneva, Switzerland, Stéphane Vinhas, by videoconference from Montréal, Quebec, and Ida Kaastra-Mutoigo made statements and answered questions.

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:38 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Jerome Elie, by videoconference from Geneva, Switzerland, Lloyd Axworthy, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Simran Singh and Shaughn McArthur made statements and answered questions.

At 5:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:29 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study on Migration Challenges and Opportunities for Canada in the 21st Century, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 134,413.83, for the Committee’s travel to Berlin, Germany with briefings and site visits to Brussels, Belgium, Nuremberg and Bamberg, Germany in the Winter of 2019, be adopted and that the Committee be authorized to provide hospitality, working meals and gifts, as deemed appropriate, during the travel.

It was agreed, — That the Committee authorize the Chair, in consultation with the Clerk of the Committee, to adapt the travel budget, as appropriate, within the requested amount, to ensure the safety and the security of the delegation as well as the proper functioning of the Committee with the staff necessary to accomplish the goals of the mission.

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
