The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in a televised session at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Ed Komarnicki, Hoang Mai, David J. McGuinty, Larry Miller, Mike Sullivan, Jeff Watson and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Matthew Kellway for Isabelle Morin and Chungsen Leung for Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Lisa Raitt, P.C., M.P., Minister of Transport.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, March 31, 2015, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-52, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act.
 

The Hon. Lisa Raitt made a statement and, with Shawn Tupper and Laureen Kinney, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Michael Bourque, James Beardsley, Lois Gardiner, Robert Taylor, Terry Berthiaume and Phil Benson made statements and, with Jean Patenaude, answered questions.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:25 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study to examine federal government investments on federal, provincial and municipal infrastructure in Canada over the past 20 years, federal spending as a percentage of the gross domestic product (GDP) in Canada and the G7, the average age of public infrastructure in Canada and preliminary progress of the New Building Canada Plan.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Bill C-52, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act, members submit to the Clerk of the Committee their amendments by 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $11,300, for the study of Bill C-52, be adopted.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
