Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government's party.

I'm now ready to receive motions for the election of the chair.

Ms. Roxanne James (Scarborough Centre, CPC):

I respectfully put forward as a motion that Daryl Kramp sit as chair of this committee.

The Clerk:

It has been moved by Roxanne James that Daryl Kramp be elected as chair of the committee.

The Clerk: Should I understand that the committee wants to proceed to the election of vice-chairs?

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair must be a member of the official opposition. I'm prepared to receive motions to that effect.

Ms. Rosane Doré Lefebvre (Alfred-Pellan, NDP):

I would like to nominate Randall Garrison as first vice-chair of the committee.

Colleagues, thank you very much. I appreciate the honour.

I will dispense with opening comments until we have our first formal meeting when we're moving forward.

I hesitate to start off my first meeting with an apology. I was on a very important conference call and I couldn't get away as quickly as I wished. I thank you for your indulgence and your courtesy to be able to put up with me at this particular point. Obviously, I'm very hopeful that we'll have a very productive and engaged committee. With today's proceedings deemed primarily for the election of chairs—

I'd like to offer my congratulations.

I understand that both the NDP and we on this side have motions to put forward. I'd like to propose that those motions be discussed next week, on Tuesday, with other routine proceedings.

Therefore, I do move that we now adjourn this meeting.
