The Standing Committee on National Defence met in a video recorded session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, the Hon. Peter Kent, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Tarik Brahmi, Corneliu Chisu, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Hon. Peter Kent, Élaine Michaud, Joyce Murray, Rick Norlock and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martin Auger, Analyst; Katherine Simonds, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Marie Deschamps, External Review Authority. Department of National Defence: MGen Christine Whitecross, Commander, Canadian Armed Forces Strategic Response Team on Sexual Misconduct.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the external review into sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in the Canadian Armed Forces.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:13 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee extend its regular sitting hours until 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 3, 2015, or until the Committee’s report on the study of the defence of North America has been sent to translation, and that the Committee’s meeting on Wednesday, May 27 be cancelled to allow members to attend the CANSEC trade show.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of National Defence, the Chief of the Defence Staff or LGen Jonathan H. Vance, as witnesses to appear before the Committee to answer questions about the mission against ISIL in Iraq and Syria.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
