The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Patrick Brown, Sean Casey, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Charmaine Borg for Pierre Jacob and Anne-Marie Day for Ève Péclet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dominique Valiquet, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Bully Free Community Alliance: Gwyneth Anderson, Co-Founder, York Region; Basiliki Schinas-Vlasis, Co-Founder, York Region. UNICEF Canada: Marvin Bernstein, Chief Policy Advisor. OpenMedia.ca: Stephen Anderson, Executive Director. WiredSafety: Parry Aftab, Executive Director, StopCyberbullying. As an individual: Shaheen Shariff, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education and Associate Member Law Faculty, McGill University.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, April 28, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act, the Competition Act and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Daniel Therrien, Nominee for the position of Privacy Commissioner of Canada, to appear on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m..

 

At 12:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
