The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Phil McColeman, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Tarik Brahmi, Brad Butt, Rodger Cuzner, Sadia Groguhé, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Cathy McLeod and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Jinny Jogindera Sims and Jean Crowder for Jinny Jogindera Sims.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association: Karin Hunt, Executive Director. Aboriginal Labour Force Development Circle: Steven Williams, Chair. International Union of Operating Engineers: Steven Schumann, Canadian Government Affairs Director; Brian Pelletier, Aboriginal Coordinator, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793. Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre: Heather McKenzie, President; Rhonda LaBelle, Executive Director. Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission: Jeff Ritter, Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for aboriginal persons in the workforce.
 

Karin Hunt, Steven Williams and Steven Schumann each made a statement and, with Brian Pelletier, answered questions.

 

At 9:40 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Rhonda LaBelle and Jeff Ritter each made a statement and, with Heather McKenzie, answered questions.

 

At 10:29 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:31 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from witnesses on its study of opportunities for Aboriginal persons in the workforce from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee give drafting instruction to the Analysts for the report from 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear from the recipient of the 2012 Centennial Flame Research Award, Larry Pempeit, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2014.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, to discuss future business.

 

At 10:39 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
