The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Ben Lobb, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, James Lunney, Cathy McLeod, Christine Moore, Murray Rankin and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Wallace for Terence Young.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Jean-Marie David, Procedural Clerk; Evelyn Lukyniuk, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Marlisa Tiedemann, Chief; Havi Echenberg, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Chiropractic Association: Robert David, Chair; Ward MacDonald, Member. Canadian Dental Association: Benoit Soucy, Director, Clinical and Scientific Affairs; Kevin Desjardins, Director, Public Affairs. Canadian Dental Hygienists Association: Ann Wright, Director, Dental Hygiene Practice; Victoria Leck, Manager, Professional Development. Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists: Paulette Guitard, Professor and Former President. Canadian Physiotherapy Association: Kate O'Connor, Director, Policy and Research. Paramedic Association of Canada: Pierre Poirier, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the best practices and federal barriers: practice and training of healthcare professionals.
 

Ann Wright, Benoit Soucy, Ward MacDonald and Robert David made statements and, with Victoria Leck and Kevin Desjardins, answered questions.

 

Christine Moore gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee on Health include in its study of Best Practices and Federal Barriers: Practice and Training of Healthcare Professionals the witness testimony from Meeting 47, Tuesday, January 27, 2015, from its consideration of Bill C-608, An Act respecting a National Day of the Midwife.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Paulette Guitard, Kate O'Connor and Pierre Poirier made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
