[Translation]

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen members of the committee.

[English]

We will proceed to the election of the chair.

[Translation]

We must proceed to the election of the chair because the composition of the committee has changed. It now has 10 members, rather than 12.
I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of the chair.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.

[English]

I am ready to receive motions for the chair.
    Ms. Nash.
    Madam Clerk, I'd like to

[Translation]

moves that James Rajotte, who is very competent, be elected. He was the former chair of the Standing Committee on Finance, and I hope that he will also be the new chair.

[English]

    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)

[Translation]

The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and James Rajotte duly elected chair of the committee.

[English]

Before inviting Mr. Rajotte to take the chair, if the committee wishes, we will now proceed to the election of the vice-chairs.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair must be a member of the official opposition.
I am now prepared to receive motions for the first vice-chair of the committee.
Mr. Saxton, you have the floor.

[English]

Madam Clerk, based on her outstanding performance in the previous session, I would like to nominate, to come back by popular demand, Peggy Nash as vice-chair.
    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Ms. Nash duly elected as first vice-chair of the committee.

[Translation]

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair must be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition.

[English]

I am now prepared to receive motions for the second vice-chair.
Although he's not at the table, I would nominate Scott Brison.

[Translation]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Members: Yes.
    (Motion agreed to)

[English]

The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Brison duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.

[Translation]

I now invite Mr. Rajotte to take the chair.

[English]

Colleagues, I want to thank you for your confidence in me as chair. I want to thank Ms. Nash for that very kind nomination.
I also want to congratulate the vice-chairs, Ms. Nash and Mr. Brison.
I should point out we are down a couple of members. Mr. Côté is now on the industry committee. We should thank him for his work. Mr. Jean has retired as a member of Parliament. We're going to miss him very much at this committee. As well, Mr. Hoback is now on the agriculture committee. We want to thank him for his work.
We also want to welcome Mr. Allen as a full standing member of this committee. It's wonderful to have at least a couple of Atlantic Canadians on this side.
I want to welcome back the clerk and the analysts, who are keeping your chair on track.
Colleagues, I'd like to suspend for a minute to pass out some documentation for future business.
