The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Lois Brown, Paul Dewar, Marc Garneau, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Lois Brown, it was agreed, — That Dean Allison be elected Chair of the Committee.

 
By unanimous consent, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee proceeded to the election of Vice-Chairs.
 

On motion of Gary Ralph Schellenberger, it was agreed, — That Paul Dewar be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Gary Ralph Schellenberger, it was agreed, — That Marc Garneau be elected Second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:35 p.m., Dean Allison took the Chair.

 

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:38 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Senior Officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development to provide an update on the current situation in Syria.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Ambassadors of Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan to discuss the situation in Syria.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold meetings on the situation in Ukraine beginning on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

 

At 3:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
