The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a video recorded session at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Anderson, Lois Brown, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Hélène Laverdière, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Francis Scarpaleggia for Marc Garneau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; Brian Hermon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Muslim Canadian Congress: Tarek Fatah, Founder. As individuals: Sami Aoun, Full Professor, Université de Sherbrooke; Salim Mansur, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Western Ontario; Ayad Jamal Aldin, Former Deputy of the Iraqi Parliament.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Response to the Violence, Religious Persecution and Dislocation Caused by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
 

Tarek Fatah, Salim Mansur and Sami Aoun, by videoconference from Montreal, Quebec, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Ayad Jamal Aldin, by videoconference from Falls Church, Virginia, made a statement and, with Tarek Fatah and Salim Mansur, answered questions.

 

At 12:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
